BRIEF: Woman, 26, found dead in Northwest Side house fire

April 05--Police are conducting a death investigation after a 26-year-old woman died in a house fire on the city's Northwest Side late Saturday.

The fire happened about 10:30 p.m. in the 6000 block of West Nelson Street in the Belmont Cragin neighborhood, police and fire officials said.

Firefighters responded to a blaze in the basement of a bungalow, said Chicago Fire Department spokesman Will Knight.

A woman, 26, was found dead inside the home, Knight said. The cause of the fire was under investigation early Sunday, officials said.

Police said a man was transferred to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood with injuries to his hands and torso. Fire officials said the man was transported in serious-to-critical condition. Both the woman and man were residents of the home, police said.
