March 13--As Boston ramps up its campaign to host the 2024 Summer Games, the U.S. Olympic Committee has named a bid expert and two other new members to its board of directors.
The newcomers are Daniel Doctoroff, a former New York City deputy mayor who served as chief executive for Bloomberg LP; Steve Mesler, a three-time Olympic bobsledder and co-founder of a mentoring program for school kids; and Kevin White, a vice president and athletic director at Duke University.
Doctoroff oversaw New York's unsuccessful bid to host the 2012 Summer Olympics.
USOC Chairman Larry Probst said the new members "are all world-class professionals and are committed to dedicating their talent and expertise to the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic movements."
The committee has been working in conjunction with Boston officials pointing toward 2017, when the International Olympic Committee will select a host for the 2024 Games.
Friday's announcement comes shortly after three board members completed their elected terms, leaving spots to fill.
The departing members are Bob Bowlsby, John Hendricks and Mary McCagg.
