BRIEF: With high winds expected, more firefighters to be sent to wildfire-prone areas

Nov. 16--Strong Santa Ana winds are expected to blow through Southern California starting Sunday, increasing the risk of wildfires amid the warm and dry conditions.

The Los Angeles Fire Department said it would deploy additional firefighters to areas that are prone to fires. The department also may enact parking restrictions in some areas, such as key intersections or on narrow roads that could make evacuations or fire response difficult.

The National Weather Service issued high-wind and red-flag fire warnings Sunday through Monday night for much of the mountains and valleys, where winds may gust up to 70 mph.

Strong winds also are expected through the passes and canyons and in the coastal areas, weather forecasters say.
