BRIEF: Window washer seriously hurt after falling 6 floors

Aug. 06--A window washer was seriously injured Wednesday morning when he fell six floors from a Northwestern Memorial Hospital building on the Near North Side, police said.

The 30-year-old man fell from a scaffold while cleaning windows at the hospital building around 8 a.m. in the 200 block of East Huron Street, authorities said.

He was taken to the Northwestern emergency room in serious condition, police and fire officials said.

Police tape blocked off an area outside the hospital's Galter Pavilion as officers investigated the incident, according to a hospital official.

The man was working from a chair when he fell, according to a statement from Chicago-based Corporate Cleaning Services, the man's employer.

"This is one of our most experienced and dedicated employees, and we are focused on providing assistance to him and his family as he undergoes various medical tests and procedures," the statement said. "We are also working closely with investigators so that we can better understand exactly how this happened and to ensure it doesn't happen again."
