June 03--In honor of Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final in Tampa, Fla., Chicago's Willis Tower is sporting a line of Blackhawks red.
The glow comes from four glass balconies that protrude 4 feet out of the building's Skydeck, according to general manager Randy Stancik.
"Our intention is to light the ledge red to support the Blackhawks until they bring that Cup home," Stancik said.
The ledge, on the 103rd floor of the building's west side, will be lit at different times each night, depending on when its last dinner guests leave, Stancik said. Wednesday night, that time should fall around 10:30 p.m.
Tuesday night marked the inaugural lighting of the ledge, which opened in 2009. Previously, the building had only ever lit up its antennas in honor of special occasions.
The Willis Tower intends to light up the Skydeck throughout the year by switching the shade on four units equipped with seven LED lights each.
