April 16--Wilford Brimley of "Cocoon" film fame has sold a 317-acre ranch in Greybull, Wyo.
While the sales price was not disclosed, a source not authorized to comment on the transaction said that it sold for slightly below the asking price of $1.15 million.
Sited at the base of the Bighorn Mountains, the pastoral setting includes a three-bedroom main house built in 1950, a two-bedroom log cabin built in 1946 and a working blacksmith's cabin.
A rodeo arena, a loafing shed with horse runs and a 3,600-square-foot cinder block shop are among the horse facilities found on the property. Additional ancillary structures include corrals, tool sheds and a grain bed.
The actor, who made a cameo appearance in listing photos for the ranch, used the property to raise horses and cattle as well as host rodeo events. He had asked as much as $1.25 million for the ranch last summer.
Randy Shelton of Hall and Hall was the listing agent.
Known for his signature handlebar mustache, Brimley, 80, worked as a ranch hand before getting into the acting business. Among his film credits are "Cocoon" (1985), "The Natural" (1984) and "The Thing" (1982), as well as national ad campaigns for Quaker Oats and Liberty Medical.
