BRIEF: 'Who Gets the Dog?' will be released in 2016 at the earliest

Aug. 31--The Chicago-based romantic comedy "Who Gets the Dog?" is near completion, according to executive producer and Epic Pictures co-founder Patrick Ewald. Now he and producers Reid Brody and Bill Ryan need to figure when and how to release the indie film starring Ryan Kwanten and Alicia Silverstone.

"Who Gets the Dog?" centers on a divorcing couple who is battling over the custody of their dog. The movie filmed earlier this year in Chicago, including during a Chicago Wolves game at the Allstate Arena in February (Kwanten plays a hockey goalie in the film).

"We're a couple weeks away from being totally finished," Ewald said following a screening of Epic Pictures' "Tales of Halloween" Aug. 20 at Muvico Rosemont 18 in Rosemont. "Once it's done we'll come up with a more detailed strategy about what we want to do and how we want to present the film. We'll have a better idea in the next couple months when we want to present the film, but the earliest would be 2016."
