July 24--CLEVELAND -- The White Sox traded Conor Gillaspie to the Angels on Friday for cash considerations, six days after they had designated the Opening Day third baseman for assignment.
Gillaspie had spent 2 1/2; seasons with the Sox after they acquired him from the Giants before the 2013 season. He started 277 games at third base with the Sox, including 50 this season, but his playing time fell off this year with Gordon Beckham's move to third and the recent addition of prospect Tyler Saladino.
Gillaspie was hitting .237 with 11 doubles, three home runs and 15 RBIs this season, and he had committed 12 errors in the field.
Saladino has started nine of the last 10 games at third.
