BRIEF: White Sox sign reliever Matt Albers to minor-league contract

Feb. 13--The Chicago White Sox signed right-handed pitcher Matt Albers to a minor-league contract with an invitation to spring training, the team announced Friday.

Albers, 32, is a nine-year major league veteran with five different clubs. He pitched 10 innings in eight relief appearances for the Houston Astros in 2014 while limited by a shoulder injury.

He has a career 25-31 record with a 4.42 ERA over 364 appearances, mostly in relief. He posted a 2.39 ERA in 2012, a 3.14 ERA in 2013 and a 0.90 ERA in his limited time in 2014.

Albers held a pitching session that was attended by 12 teams in Houston this week, the Houston Chronicle reported.

The Sox will have 64 players at their major league spring training, which begins Feb. 20 when pitchers and catchers report.
