BRIEF: White Sox's Chris Bassitt ends AFL season

Nov. 05--The Chicago White Sox took no chances with reliever Chris Bassitt, who was taken off the Glendale roster of the Arizona Fall League.

Bassitt experienced discomfort in his left foot that is not believed to be serious. Bassitt, 25, stands a strong chance to earn a spot in the Sox's rotation, and he validated his credentials by posting an 0.69 ERA with 22 strikeouts and three walks in 13 innings in the AFL.

Bassitt had a 3.94 ERA in six appearances for the Sox after spending most of the 2014 season at Triple-A Charlotte.

The Sox also gained open spot on their 40-man roster, as reliever Taylor Thompson was claimed off waivers by the Oakland Athletics.

Thompson, 27, had a 10.13 ERA in five appearances with the Sox.

Thompson has spent his entire professional career with the Sox after being signed out of Auburn as a 44th-round pick in 2009. Thompson was 3-0 with a 2.14 ERA in 39 appearances with Triple-A Charlotte last season.

The White Sox's 40-man roster stands at 36.
