BRIEF: White Sox resign reliever Matt Albers

Jan. 21--The White Sox re-signed free agent reliever Matt Albers on Thursday, giving the 33-year-old right-hander $2 million, with a $3 million option for 2017 and a $250,000 buyout.

Albers had a 1.21 earned-run average in 37 1/3 innings in 2015, his first season with the Sox, missing three months over the summer after breaking his right pinkie finger during the brawl with the Royals at U.S. Cellular Field.

He threw 22 1/3 consecutive scoreless innings in his final 20 appearances, and has a 4.20 ERA with 389 strikeouts in 394 career games with the Astros, Orioles, Red Sox, Diamondbacks, Indians and Sox.
