BRIEF: White Sox place Emilio Bonifacio on DL, call up Leury Garcia

July 30--The White Sox placed utility man Emilio Bonifacio on the 15-day disabled list with a left oblique strain before Wednesday's game against the Red Sox at Fenway Park.

The Sox recalled Leury Garcia from Triple-A Charlotte to replace Bonifacio, who suffered the injury during his third-inning at-bat Tuesday.

Bonifacio, who had an RBI double in the first inning, fell to the ground after he grounded out and had to be helped off the field. After signing a one-year, $4 million free-agent contract in the offseason, Bonifacio has played in just 45 games for the Sox and is hitting .169.

Garcia, who spent the 2014 season with the Sox, was recalled during the weekend Cleveland series to fill in for Bonifacio, who was on the bereavement list. He had a hit in his only at-bat.

Garcia is hitting .296 with 15 doubles, 24 RBIs, 40 runs and 28 stolen bases over 75 games with Charlotte this season.
