BRIEF: White Sox outfielder Tony Campana tears ACL

Feb. 10--The Chicago White Sox lost one of their 2015 bench options even before spring training starts.

Outfielder Tony Campana, who was invited to Sox spring training on a minor-league contract, tore his ACL while working out and likely will miss the season, a Sox spokesman said Tuesday.

Campana, 28, has hit .249 with 70 runs scored and 66 stolen bases over 257 games with the Cubs, Diamondbacks and Angels since 2011. He was a 13th-round draft pick of the Cubs in 2008.

He would have been in competition this spring to come off the Sox bench as a backup outfielder and pinch runner.

The Sox aren't set on a backup outfielder to join left fielder Melky Cabrera, center fielder Adam Eaton and right fielder Avisail Garcia. Utility man Emilio Bonifacio can play in the outfield, but the Sox could take another outfielder on the roster as well. J.B. Shuck, whom the Sox claimed off waivers from the Indians in November, is an option.
