BRIEF: White Sox manager Robin Ventura to miss Rays series

June 11--White Sox manager Robin Ventura will miss the weekend series at the Rays to attend the college graduation of his second daughter, Madison, from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.

Ventura said he will rejoin the team in Pittsburgh on Monday. Sox bench coach Mark Parent will fill in as manager. Parent also served as acting manager in 2013 and 2014 when Ventura attended family graduation ceremonies. Vance Law, the Sox's minor-league hitting coordinator, will serve as the bench coach.

"Every year, I kind of planned it that way," Ventura joked.

The Sox will try to sweep the Astros on Wednesday night at U.S. Cellular Field before a day off Thursday. They open the three-game series at the Rays on Friday.

The Sox are going with a different lineup Wednesday behind left-hander Jose Quintana.

Sox center fielder J.B. Shuck will lead off, followed by second baseman Emilio Bonifacio, first baseman Jose Abreu, designated hitter Adam LaRoche, right fielder Avisail Garcia, left fielder Melky Cabrera, catcher Geovany Soto, third baseman Conor Gillaspie and shortstop Gordon Beckham.
