Adam Eaton scratched from White Sox lineup because of illness

March 17--GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Chicago White Sox center fielder Adam Eaton was scratched from the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Seattle Mariners because of illness.

J.B. Shuck will take Eaton's place in center field.

Second baseman Micah Johnson will lead off at Camelback Ranch, followed by left fielder Melky Cabrera, first baseman Jose Abreu, designated hitter Adam LaRoche, right fielder Avisail Garcia, shortstop Alexei Ramirez, third baseman Conor Gillaspie, catcher Tyler Flowers and Shuck.

Before Eaton was scratched, the lineup was similar to what one might see on opening day. Johnson is one of the uncertainties in that lineup, as he remains in competition for the second-base job with Carlos Sanchez and Gordon Beckham. Johnson is hitting .458 with a double, a triple, a home run, five RBIs and seven runs scored in 10 spring training games.

Right-hander Jeff Samardzija also is pitching Tuesday at Camelback Ranch. While his current pitching schedule lines up for him to pitch on opening day, Ventura has not yet publicly named Samardzija or left-hander Jose Quintana the starter for the opener.

It will be Samardzija's second start of the spring. He gave up two earned runs on three hits over three innings in his first start against the A's.
