June 07--The Chicago White Sox are seeking a series win against the Tigers Sunday after splitting the first two games of the weekend set.
Jeff Samardzija (4-3, 4.68) faces Alfredo Simon (5-3, 2.97) at U.S. Cellular Field.
Samardzija has struggled in the first innings of games this season, allowing 16 of the 42 runs he has given up this year in that frame. Opponents have been hitting .426 off Samardzija in the first.
The season series between the Sox and Tigers is tied 4-4. The Sox have not won a season series with the Tigers since 2010. The Tigers have dominated the Sox 61-39 during that stretch.
Before Sunday's game, the Sox placed left-handed pitcher Dan Jennings on the 15-day disabled list with soreness on his left side. They purchased the contract of right-handed pitcher Junior Guerra from Triple A Charlotte.
