Thursday's recap: Athletics 4, White Sox 2

Sept. 18--Billy Butler's three-run homer off White Sox closer David Robertson lifted the Athletics to a 4-2 victory Thursday at U.S. Cellular Field. With two on, one out and a 2-1 Sox lead, Sox right fielder Avisail Garcia got his glove on the homer, but it bounced out and into the bullpen.

Turning point

With one out in the ninth, Brett Lawrie doubled and Danny Valencia singled off Robertson to put A's runners on the corners before Butler's home run.

At the plate

The day after becoming the first player in history to hit a home run for the Cubs and Sox in the same season, Mike Olt crushed another homer to the left-field concourse, estimated at 443 feet.

On the mound

The only run against left-hander Jose Quintana came when former Sox infielder Marcus Semien singled in former Sox catcher Josh Phegley in the third. Quintana gave up four hits, walked one and struck out six.

Key number

7 -- Runs Robertson has allowed in his last two appearances.

The quote

"The last two outings have been terrible. I haven't gotten the job done. I stunk it up out there today. Nobody feels worse than me right now. 'Q' deserved this one, this team deserved this one. I did a terrible job." -- Robertson

The quote II

"That's part of being a closer. He'll put it behind him. There's still confidence in him going out there. Everybody runs into their stretch. It's magnified when it's the closer and it's the end of the game." -- Sox manager Robin Ventura on Robertson
