Aug. 03--The White Sox called up outfielder Trayce Thompson from Triple-A Charlotte before Monday's game against the Rays at U.S. Cellular Field.
Thompson will fill in as the fourth outfielder with J.B. Shuck on the disabled list with a strained left hamstring. He takes the roster spot of reliever Scott Carroll, who was called up to help a taxed bullpen Saturday and Sunday but was optioned back to Charlotte after Sunday's game.
It is the first major-league call-up for Thompson, the Sox's 15th-ranked prospect, according to MLB.com. He is hitting .260 with 23 doubles, four triples, 13 home runs, 39 RBIs, 53 runs and 11 stolen bases over 104 games with Charlotte this year.
Thompson, 24, was the Sox's second-round draft pick in 2009. He is the son of former NBA star Mychal Thompson and the brother of current Golden State Warriors star Klay Thompson.
