BRIEF: White Sox activate Zach Putnam from the DL

Sept. 11--The Chicago White Sox's bullpen was bolstered with the return of right-hander Zach Putnam from the 15-day disabled list Friday.

The 28-year-old Putnam was placed on the DL on Aug. 29 (retroactive to Aug. 27) with a strained right groin. He is 3-3 with a 3.07 earned-run average and 55 strikeouts over 41 relief appearances with the Sox this season. Putnam ranks fifth among American League relievers with an average of 12.07 strikeouts per 9.0 innings pitched.

Putnam is expected to be in uniform when the Sox kick off a three-game series against the Minnesota Twins on Friday night at U.S. Cellular Field.

Erik Johnson (1-0, 4.50) is scheduled to take the mound for the Sox and will be opposed by Ervin Santana (4-4, 4.93) for the Twins.
