Oct. 12--Chicago residents can now get updates about water and sewer projects in their neighborhoods.
The city's water management department said it has launched a new email notification system, called WaterAlert, that will give real-time information to Chicagoans about the progress of water and sewer main construction projects.
"By signing up for alerts, Chicagoans will be automatically notified as the project enters each new construction phase, from mobilization of equipment onto the site, to the installation of new pipes, to the final restoration of the street," Mayor Rahm Emanuel said in a statement.
Chicagoans can register for the alerts at BuildingANewChicago.org by providing their name, email address and the construction project's identification number. That number is on the letter sent to area customers before a project starts.
Signing up for WaterAlerts is free, but subscribers might be charged for incoming calls, messages and data on their devices, depending on their service plans.
