BRIEF: Western Springs bank robbed

Dec. 31--An armed man robbed a bank in suburban Western Springs Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.

The First Merit Bank, 5450 Wolf Rd. in Western Springs, was robbed about 4:10 p.m. Tuesday, according to a police statement.

Police said a white man, approximately 40 years-old and five-foot-ten, walked into the bank with a "black unknown caliber revolver weapon" and demanded money. The man was wearing a light blue stocking cap, mirrored sunglasses and a black scarf partially covering his face at the time of the robbery. He also wore a brown jacket and brown khaki pants, according to the police statement.

The man made off with a small bag containing an undisclosed amount of money and fled northbound from the bank on foot, police said.

Several police agencies responded to the robbery but were not able to find the man, police said. Nobody was injured during the robbery.

Police said the investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information can contact the FBI at (312) 421-6700.
