April 10--DENVER -- Catcher Welington Castillo lost much of his playing time, but he hasn't lost his sense of humor.
"Long time, no see," Castillo quipped Friday to reporters who noticed him starting for the first time.
Castillo maintained that he comes to the park prepared to play regardless of the acquisition of Miguel Montero and David Ross this winter.
"I came into the season with my mind ready like I'm going to play every day," Castillo said. "That's my mindset, even though I'm not playing. That's how my mind is.
"I just got to be ready for whenever they want me to play or how they want me to use me."
Or if the Cubs decide to trade him, which remains a strong possibility especially if an opposing team loses a catcher to injury.
"Sure, anything can happen," Castillo said. "This is a business, so I'm just here to play and win games, whatever they need me to do or if they're going to trade me or if something happens, (we'll deal with it)."
Manager Joe Maddon didn't seem burdened by carrying three catchers.
"What happens normally is that baseball has a cruel way of answering questions for you and creating more time for people," Maddon said.
