BRIEF: Wednesday's recap: Reds 6, White Sox 3

March 31--White Sox left-hander Jose Quintana gave up four earned runs on nine hits in a 6-3 loss to the Reds on Wednesday at Goodyear Ballpark. Quintana walked three and struck out three over three-plus innings.

At the plate: Tyler Saladino homered in the fourth inning off Josh Smith and had an RBI single in the sixth for the Sox.

On the mound: Quintana gave up a two-run homer to Brandon Phillips in the third inning for a 2-0 Reds lead.

On the bases: Saladino was picked off second base to end the sixth inning.

Key number: 14 -- RBIs from Saladino this spring, second on the team behind Avisail Garcia's 17.

The quote: "I threw too many pitches out (of the zone) while I tried practicing on my cutter. ... But that happens. It was a tough day, but I'm ready for the second game in Oakland." -- Quintana
