Nov. 28--Milder air moved into the Chicago area as holiday shopping heated up on Black Friday.
Thursday was one of the coldest Thanksgiving Days on record, but after a burst of flurries early Friday morning, temperatures were expected to rise into the mid-30s for a warming spell that's expected to continue through the weekend.
Chicago's high temperature on Thursday was 27 degrees, ranking it as the 7th coldest Thanksgiving Day high on record. The lowest was 14 degrees on Nov. 27, 1930. The cold snap eased on Friday as the jet stream brought mild air over the central and southern Plains.
A band of light snow fell ahead of the warm front, with the heaviest accumulations across central Wisconsin, with as much as an inch along the Illinois state line.
The high was expected to be in the mid-30s on Friday and the upper 40s on Saturday and Sunday.
On Monday, a polar high pressure will bring cold but sunny skies, with the high only in the mid-20s.
