Nov. 28--Traffic lanes in both directions on Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu reopened late Thursday after crews worked to repair a water main break, authorities said.
The break occurred near Pacific Coast Highway and Trancas Canyon Road about 7 p.m. and briefly caused a full closure of the thoroughfare, said Lt. John Lecrivain of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Malibu/Lost Hills Station.
Water sprayed across both lanes of the roadway, and a sinkhole formed on one side, officials said.
The water flow was stopped at about 9:20 p.m., and crews were assessing the damage and cleaning the road late Thursday. Cones were placed around the sinkhole, and all traffic lanes were opened shortly before 11 p.m., officials said.
Broad Beach Road, which was closed because of water running downhill onto the road, was also reopened hours later, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
Drivers should expect delays throughout the night, Lecrivain said.
