BRIEF: Watch the Da Brat performance that didn't air on 'Empire'

Dec. 03--Chicago rapper Da Brat made her debut on "Empire" Wednesday night but her performance didn't make the cut.

The rapper, born Shawntae Harris, shared the unaired scene Thursday on her Facebook page. She played a prisoner who knew Cookie Lyon (played by Taraji P. Henson) when she was incarcerated. Lyon returned to the prison in Wednesday's episode to host a concert.

Da Brat, who was raised on the West Side and in Joliet, told Billboard she messaged "Empire" co-creator Lee Daniels on Twitter to pitch him ideas for her guest-starring role.

"Really anything Lee wanted me to do -- if I had to play a crackhead, I would've done it. That's how much I love that show. I love and respect Lee Daniels," she said.

"Empire," which airs on Fox, is on hiatus until March 30. The show is filmed in Chicago and set in New York.
