May 20--The Blackhawks outlasted the Anaheim Ducks in Game 2 of the Western Conference finals, winning the longest game in franchise history on a Marcus Kruger goal that came after 16 minutes and 12 seconds of the third overtime.
For fans in Chicago, the game-winning goal was scored at 1:08 a.m. Wednesday (11:08 p.m. Tuesday in Anaheim).
"It's a great feeling to win," Kruger said. "We almost played two games out there and to put it in and get a big win here leaving California 1-1, we're pretty satisfied. It's going to be a great feeling stepping out there at the United Center."
Earlier, Andrew Shaw appeared to have won the game for the Blackhawks when he headed a puck out of mid-air and into the Ducks' goal in the second overtime. But that goal was disallowed because Shaw used something other than a stick to direct the puck toward the net.
NHL rule 78.5 (i) states: "Apparent goals shall be disallowed when the puck has been directed, batted or thrown into the net by an attacking player other than with a stick."
"I think if anyone can ever pull that off it should still be a goal," Shaw said with a laugh.
