Jan. 12--The 2015 Volkswagen Golf and the 2015 Ford F-150 have won the North American Car and Truck of the Year awards.
The awards are considered by many to be the most prestigious in the industry because of the vigorous and relatively unbiased judging process. 57 automotive journalists are selected annually, many for the first time, said Marty Padgett, editor of NACTOY, which exists solely for the award. The jurors pay dues to be part of the committee, and there are no paid positions within NACTOY.
Of the 50 vehicles tested, 10 cars and 12 trucks were selected for the long list by journalists based on several test drives. The points-based nominating system factored design, safety, performance and value.
"I think the journalists made the right choice," said the Volkswagen spokesperson accepting the award.
Chevrolet swept the 2014 awards with the Corvette Stingray and Silverado.
