Vin Scully says he'll call the Dodgers' opener in San Diego

Feb. 25--The Dodgers open the season on the road -- and Vin Scully will be there.

Scully said Wednesday that he would broadcast the April 4 opener in San Diego -- the first game of his 67th and final season as the voice of the Dodgers.

"I love opening day, wherever it is," Scully said. "It's so near. I said I'd love to share in that."

Scully, 88, said he would not call the rest of the series.

Scully does not plan to travel outside California this year, at least during the regular season. He has said he would like to call the Dodgers' regular-season finale Oct. 2 at San Francisco.

The Dodgers' home opener is scheduled April 12. Before then, Scully is set to call a March 25 Cactus League game against the Giants, the March 31-April 2 Freeway Series exhibitions against the Angels, and the April 4 opener in San Diego.

The Dodgers' SportsNet LA television broadcasts remain unavailable in a majority of Southern California homes. The first three innings of every Scully broadcast are simulcast on KLAC-AM (570).
