BRIEF: Firefighters respond to vacant warehouse fire in Lawndale

Oct. 04--Chicago firefighters were called to the West Side on Sunday afternoon as flames shot through the roof of a vacant factory building, according to fire officials.

Crews were on the scene fighting the fire at the one-story building in the 4400 block of West Cermak Road in the city's Lawndale neighborhood, said Chicago Fire Department Chief Juan Hernandez.

"We don't expect any injuries,'' he said, adding that no one was believed to be inside.

The fire began about 11:35 a.m. and was struck out at 12:55 p.m. as crews began ventilating the area. No injuries were reported.
