BRIEF: USC hires Yale administrator to be chief financial officer

Oct. 26--USC has hired a Yale health system administrator to become the school's top financial officer.

James M. Staten is the executive vice president and chief financial officer for the Yale New Haven Health System, where he had worked for almost 15 years, according to a USC news release.

The health system operates three hospitals in Connecticut, including one that is affiliated with Yale University.

Staten will oversee USC's budget, financial services and construction starting Jan. 19 of next year. He will replace Robert Abeles, who is retiring after having served as USC's chief financial officer since 2009.

USC's latest budget was $4.2 billion. It is one of the largest private employers in Los Angeles County.
