BRIEF: USC freshmen preview: Lineman Jacob Daniel ready to compete

July 23--This month we are previewing each USC freshman joining the team in training camp.

Player: Jacob Daniel

Position: Defensive lineman

Number: 92

Height: 6-foot-4

Weight: 325 pounds

High school: Clovis North

Hometown: Fresno

High school: Davis, who was once committed to Washington, helped lead his team to the CIF Central Section title as a junior, but he was sidelined for all but two games in 2014 while recovering from knee surgery. "We're going to rise back to the top," he said of the Trojans, after signing a letter of intent in February. "I felt it would be a cool story to tell once we're back on top."

USC defensive line breakdown: Daniel joins a position group in search of production. With Leonard Williams now in the NFL, Daniel could help back up Antwaun Woods, Claude Pelon and Delvon Simmons. Cody Temple, Greg Townsend Jr. and Malik Dorton also return along with Kenny Bigelow, who sat out last season while recovering from knee surgery.

Season prediction for Daniel: Will compete for playing time, but could redshirt.
