Aug. 20--USC defensive lineman Claude Pelon was scheduled to have arthroscopic knee surgery Thursday, Steve Sarkisian said.
Pelon, a senior, suffered a knee sprain this week and the surgery was intended to determine if there was more damage, Sarkisian said.
Pelon, 6-foot-4 and 300 pounds, started three games in 2014. He finished with six tackles for losses, including 2½ sacks.
Pelon redshirted at Coffeyville (Kan.) Community College and played at Eastern Arizona College and Mesa (Ariz.) Community College before transferring to USC.
USC opened training camp with 15 defensive linemen.
The Trojans open the season Sept. 5 against Arkansas State.
