Dec. 15--Before heading to Rio de Janeiro for the 2016 Summer Games, sprinter Usain Bolt will stop by the site of his last Olympic conquest.
Track's most dominant figure announced Monday he will compete in the London Anniversary Games next July. The British capital is where he won gold in the 100, 200 and 400 relay in 2012.
"I know the athletics fans in London are very knowledgeable and passionate about track and field and will come out in force and create a great atmosphere like they always do," he said in a statement. "There are a lot of Jamaicans living in the UK and I always get great support -- it is like my home away from home."
Bolt struggled through an injury-hampered 2015 but rebounded with a strong performance at the world championships. In Brazil, he will attempt an Olympic three-peat in his specialty events.
His British tune-up, scheduled for July 22 and 23 at Olympic Stadium in East London, is part of the IAAF Diamond League.
"Usain Bolt is a global sporting icon," said Niels de Vos, chief executive of British Athletics, adding: "I expect the British sprinters to rise to the challenge of facing Usain Bolt and anticipate some electrifying performances from a range of world-class athletes."
