BRIEF: Union seeks to represent Divvy workers

Nov. 03--A union seeking to represent workers of Chicago's Divvy bike-sharing program filed an election petition last week with the National Labor Relations Board.

John Samuelsen, Transport Workers Union executive vice president, said the union seeks to represent almost 70 full-time and part-time workers, including mechanics and truck drivers, who are paid $12 to $16 an hour.

The Chicago campaign is the latest in the union's drive to represent about 400 employees at bike-sharing programs in cities such as New York, Boston and Washington, D.C. Samuelsen said that as cities expand or start bike-sharing programs over the next decade, he expects the industry to employ some 5,000 workers.
