May 06--A baby was delivered after he was hit by gunfire that struck his pregnant mother, authorities said.
The child remains in critical condition and is being treated at the Valley Children's Hospital in Madera.
Adrianna Bravo, 33, was 8½ months pregnant when she and her husband were confronted by three suspects about 3:55 p.m. Tuesday in the front yard of their Bakersfield home, according to Ray Pruitt, spokesman for the Kern County sheriff's office. One of the suspects opened fired on her and her 34-year-old husband, Mario Bravo Jr.
A gunshot to Adrianna Bravo's lower hip struck her unborn son, Pruitt said. Mario Bravo was hit multiple times in the upper torso.
The couple was taken to an area hospital, where Adrianna was forced to deliver her child.
The newborn suffered injuries stemming from the gunshot, Pruitt said.
The child's father and mother were recovering from their injuries.
Sheriff's detectives are looking for the men who attacked the couple.
