March 10--Construction on UCLA's new basketball training facility will begin this fall and will be called the Mo Ostin Basketball Center, the school announced Monday.
Ostin, a UCLA alumnus and chairman emeritus of Warner Bros. Records, donated $10 million to the facility, which will be privately funded. The school has raised $15 million in cash and pledges out of a total cost of between $30 million and $40 million.
UCLA renovated Pauley Pavilion in 2012, and the men's and women's teams have used the facility for practice and training. When the arena flooded during the summer, the Bruins held its first practices of the season in the Student Activities Center, where intramural sports are usually played.
Many other top programs have built separate training facilities. Kentucky, for example, opened a $30-million building for its basketball teams in 2007.
UCLA announced plans for the new facility nearly 10 months ago. The plans include practice gyms and locker rooms for the men's and women's teams. It will be built near Pauley Pavilion, to the south of the Los Angeles Tennis Center.
