BRIEF: UCLA quarterback Asiantii Woulard to transfer

June 03--UCLA's quarterback competition thinned out Wednesday.

Asiantii Woulard announced he will leave UCLA, removing one player from the Bruins' quarterback competition.

In a Twitter post, Woulard said that "after much thought, I'll be transferring from UCLA. Thankful for the opportunity great experience, now looking forward to a new beginning."

Woulard, who would have been a redshirt sophomore in the fall, never played for the Bruins. He competed for the starting job with Jerry Neuheisel and Josh Rosen.

Neuheisel, who will be a junior, backed up starter Brett Hundley the last two seasons. Rosen, a freshman, enrolled in January to compete for the job.

The 6-foot-3, 210-pound Woulard became a hot prospect before his senior year at Winter Park (Fla.) High when he was selected the most valuable player at the Elite 11, a prestigious camp for quarterbacks.

He seemed the heir apparent to Hundley as a freshman. However, an impressive spring by Rosen left Woulard's future murky.

Woulard will sit out next season and have two years of eligibility remaining.
