BRIEF: UCLA, Kansas State both handled Texas this season

Dec. 09--Texas was the intersection where Valero Alamo Bowl opponents UCLA and Kansas State met this season: The two teams will face each other on Jan. 2, but they've both already played, and beaten, the Texas Longhorns.

UCLA's 20-17 victory in Arlington's AT Stadium was more noteworthy as the Bruins had to do it without quarterback Brett Hundley, who injured his left elbow early in the game. Jerry Neuheisel stepped in and managed handled the offense well, throwing for 178 yards and two touchdowns.

The Bruins defense made two late stands. After one, Neuheisel tossed a 33-yard touchdown pass to erase a 17-13 Texas lead.

K-State's 23-0 blanking of the Longhorns in Manhattan, Kan., was more run-of-the-mill. The Wildcats held Texas to 196 total yards and methodically wore the Longhorns down with four scoring drives of 10 or more plays.

Quarterback Jake Waters threw for 224 yards. Tyler Lockett caught eight passes for 103 yards.
