April 24--Shootings since about midday Thursday have left a 16-year-old boy dead and three other people wounded on the city's South and West sides, according to police.
The most recent shooting, in the 7300 block of South Dante Avenue in the Grand Crossing neighborhood, left a 16-year-old boy dead. He was shot about 6 p.m. Police said he was found shot in the neck and chest and pronounced dead on the scene.
Earlier, a 40-year-old man working for the Department of Water Management was shot in the Little Village neighborhood Thursday morning, according to authorities.
That happened in the 3000 block of South Komensky Avenue about 11:30 a.m. The man suffered w ounds to his hand and the upper left part of his chest, police said.
He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital and his condition had been stabilized, police said.
Peter Scales, a spokesman for the water department, confirmed that the man shot was an employee who was on duty at the time of the shooting.
About a half hour later, an 18-year-old man was shot in the Rosemoor neighborhood. He was wounded in the 10300 block of South Prairie Avenue, police said.
He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center with a wound to his left leg.
In the Gresham neighborhood about 1:40 p.m., a 20-year-old man suffered multiple gunshot wounds in an attack in the 8000 block of South Marshfield Avenue.
He was wounded after someone got out of a car and started shooting, police said. The shooter fled the scene, though it's not clear if he fled in the car.
