Nov. 12--Two window-washers who had been dangling from the side of New York City's One World Trade Center were rescued Wednesday afternoon after a scaffold broke on the south side of the 104-story building, officials said.
A New York City Fire Department spokeswoman told the Los Angeles Times that both men were rescued around 2 p.m. EST after the scaffold broke.
Both men were were said to be safe and did not suffer injuries, but the spokeswoman declined to answer additional questions.
A news conference is expected to be held shortly.
The scaffold broke around 12:45 p.m., but both men were fastened to safety harnesses, fire officials said.
"They're tied off. They're safe," an FDNY spokesman said.
It was not clear how the men were brought to the ground.
The building, also known as Freedom Tower, opened on Nov. 3 after years of delays. It is only a few feet from where the North Tower of the Twin Towers stood until Sept. 11, 2001.
The scaffold was hanging near the 68th floor of the building, according to CBS in New York.
