Jan. 06--In an "abundance of caution," two schools in Carlsbad will be closed Tuesday after an anonymous threat was received Monday on Instagram, officials announced Monday afternoon.
The threat led to a lockdown and then early dismissal at Carlsbad High School. Carlsbad police had searched the school and determined that it was safe for students to leave their classrooms.
Suzette Lovely, superintendent of the Carlsbad Unified School District, said that Carlsbad High and Carlsbad Village Academy will be closed Tuesday.
The decision, she said, was made after consulting with Carlsbad police "due to the nature of the threat and as an added safety measure." Other schools will be open.
"The safety of our students and staff remains our top priority," Lovely said in a message issued at 5:12 p.m. to students, faculty members and parents at the northern San Diego County school district.
