BRIEF: Two men shot in Cicero over cigarettes

Jan. 19--Two men were shot in west suburban Cicero on Sunday night after refusing to give cigarettes to the gunman, officials said.

According to an email release from Cicero spokesman Ray Hanania, the two men were in the 5300 block of 25th Place in Cicero about 9 p.m. Sunday when a man wearing a hoodie came up to them and asked for cigarettes. After the two men refused, the third man took out a handgun and fired at the two, hitting one man in the finger and the other in the elbow.

The gunman then fled the scene and the two injured men were taken to MacNeal Hospital, Hanania said.

No additional information was available about the men who were shot.

Cicero police are investigating. Anyone with information about the shooter is asked to call the Cicero police at (708) 652-2130.
