3 killed, 1 wounded in city shootings

Jan. 27--Three men were fatally shot Tuesday on the West and Far South sides, including a 76-year-old man, Chicago police said. One other man was shot and wounded Tuesday evening.

The most recent fatal shooting happened about 6 p.m. on the Near West Side, where a 62-year-old man was found with a gunshot wound to the head in the 1000 block of West Maxwell Street, police said.

He was pronounced dead on the scene, and the death is being investigated as a homicide, police said. The shooting may have been related to a previous altercation with a neighbor, police said.

Police initially said the man was in his 40s. That information was later corrected.

At about 4 p.m. on the West Side, a 33-year-old man was shot in a possible drive-by in the South Austin neighborhood, police said. He was in the first block of South Leamington Avenue when he was shot in the chest. He was taken to Stroger Hospital and pronounced dead.

On the Far South Side, a 76-year-old was found shot to death around noon in the Golden Gate neighborhood, police said.

The man was in the 13200 block of South Riverdale Avenue when someone shot him, according to police. He suffered gunshot wounds to the buttocks and face. He was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Officers responded to a well-being check in a home when they found the victim, who may have been dead for a couple of days or more. No one is in custody for the homicide.

The Cook County medical examiner's office identified him as Claude Cannon, who lived in the same block where he was pronounced dead.

A non-fatal shooting occurred on the South Side about 9:10 p.m., when an 18-year-old man was shot in Bridgeport, said Officer Veejay Zala, a police spokesman. The teen was in the 2900 block of South Shields Avenue when he was shot in the leg. He was taken to Stroger Hospital, and his condition was stabilized.
