BRIEF: Two killed in one-car crash on 60 Freeway in City of Industry

May 16--Two people were killed early Saturday morning when the car they were riding in veered off the 60 Freeway in the City of Industry and crashed into a tree, authorities said.

The crash occurred about 2:40 a.m. Saturday on the eastbound 60, just west of the 605 Freeway, authorities said.

Diego Martinez, a 24-year-old Ontario resident, was driving "at a high rate of speed" and lost control of the Toyota Scion for unknown reasons, according to the California Highway Patrol. The car went across all lanes of the freeway before colliding with the tree.

Two of the passengers, a 49-year-old man from Baldwin Park and a 23-year-old woman from Ontario, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Martinez and a third passenger, a 45-year-old woman from Ontario, suffered major injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital. None of the passengers were identified.

No arrests were made, according to the CHP. No other details were available.
