BRIEF: Two Chicago performers cast on 'RuPaul's Drag Race'

Feb. 02--Chicago performers Kim Chi and Naysha Lopez are among the 12 contestants cast on the upcoming season of "RuPaul's Drag Race," the Logo network announced Monday.

The Season 8 cast members will compete in a series of beauty and performances challenges for the $100,000 prize and the title of drag queen superstar. RuPaul serves as host, judge and mentor.

"I signed up for 'Drag Race' because I want to win that $100,000," Kim Chi said in a video introduction for the show. "I want to earn enough money to be able to afford (guacamole) on my burrito bowl without worrying about the consequences."

Kim Chi is a fan of haute couture runway pieces while Lopez is a self-proclaimed beauty queen who counts Jennifer Lopez as a fashion inspiration.

"I love to be pretty and soft and polished," Naysha Lopez said in a Logo video.

The show is set to premiere 8 p.m. March 7.

Meanwhile, previous contestants are scheduled to embark on a "Battle of the Seasons" tour in the spring that includes a June 10 stop at the Riviera Theatre.
