BRIEF: Two charged in fatal shooting of Harvey man in forest preserve

Dec. 24--Two Harvey men have been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the fatal shooting of a man in a forest preserve near Harvey earlier this month, authorities said.

The body of Jose Luis Garcia-Cibrian, 30, of Harvey, was found Dec. 5 in the Kickapoo Meadows Forest Preserve near the 14100 block of Thornton Road. Garcia-Cibrian had been shot multiple times, according to Cook County sheriff's police.

Harvey police arrested Vicente Mendoza-Godinez, 20, on Dec. 17, and sheriff's police took Andrew Boone, 24, into custody Dec. 20, according to the sheriff's office.

Mendoza-Godinez and Boone were being held without bail in Cook County Jail.

Cook County sheriff's detectives identified Boone and Mendoza-Godinez as suspects during an investigation that included interviews and video surveillance.

Investigators also determined Garcia-Cibrian had been robbed of his money and cell phone prior to his death in the forest preserve, sheriff's police said.

Mendoza-Godinez is next scheduled to appear in Cook County Circuit Court in Markham on Jan. 8.
