March 28--Los Angeles police are reviewing a potential social media threat made against the wife of Clippers basketball player Chris Paul in the last few months.
LAPD Police Lt. Andrew Neiman said that the department's threat management unit was investigating threats against Chris Paul and his family. The investigation into the social media threats is ongoing and no one has been arrested, Neiman said.
Following a Los Angeles Clippers' loss in early February, one Twitter user allegedly threatened to kill Paul's wife, Jada Crawley, and frame Paul for the crime. The social media message sparked concern among security experts who work with the team and the episode was reported to the LAPD's threat management unit, according to a law enforcement official who declined speak for attribution.
The threat investigation was first reported by TMZ on Sunday evening.
It is not unheard of for sports fans to publish threatening tweets, or to troll athletes on social media. However, threats naming family members usually rate as a greater cause for concern.
The threat investigation so far has not been referred to prosecutors, according to the law enforcement source.
