BRIEF: Trailer for 'Barbershop: The Next Cut' addresses Chicago violence

Nov. 24--The South Side community that's home to Calvin's Barbershop is facing increasing violence in a new trailer for the third "Barbershop" film.

"This neighborhood was always rough but there's something different going on," says Ice Cube, who plays barbershop owner Calvin Palmer in "Barbershop: The Next Cut." The movie's trailer, which was released Tuesday, comes on the heels of Sunday's premiere of Spike Lee's film "Chi-Raq," which also explores South Side violence.

The third "Barbershop" movie, starring Cedric the Entertainer, Chicago rapper-turned-actor Common, hip-hop artist Nicki Minaj and rapper Tyga, was filmed in Atlanta, according to the Chicago Film Office.

The first two movies in the series, which also led to the 2005 spin-off "Beauty Shop," were filmed in Chicago.

"Barbershop: The Next Cut," directed by Malcolm D. Lee ("The Best Man Holiday"), is slated to hit theaters April 15.
