Traded away from Chicago, Chris Bassitt offers fans his White Sox gear

Dec. 11--The Sox gave up right-handed pitcher Chris Bassitt in the six-player trade with the Athletics to acquire Jeff Samardzija on Tuesday, so Bassitt gave up his Sox gear the following day.

Bassitt tweeted Wednesday that he would give away his Sox belongings to fans who retweeted his message.

"Dear White Sox fans, I got traded and have a lot of White Sox stuff," he wrote. "I want you guys to have it. #RT for a chance to win. Multiple winners."

Bassitt, whose Twitter handle is @C_Bass419, received nearly 3,900 retweets as of Wednesday evening.

The Sox liked what they saw from Bassitt during his lone month in the major leagues in September. He was 1-1 with a 3.94 ERA in six games, including five starts, and the Sox thought he showed promise in the bullpen when he pitched there in the Arizona Fall League.

But the club determined him expendable when it came to getting Samardzija, along with infielder Marcus Semien, catcher Josh Phegley and first baseman Rangel Ravelo.

Before expressing his excitement about joining the A's, Bassitt also tweeted a goodbye to Sox fans Tuesday.

"I would like to thank the entire @whitesox organization for everything," he wrote. "Filled from top to bottom with great people that I will surely miss."
